Moving Labor Services

Find the Information You Need
on How to Plan Your Next
Move from Hiring Moving Labor
Services to a Self Move

Moving is no fun whether you do it yourself or hire it out. So, in order to make the process easier, I’ve put together some information on moving that will cover planning a move in Moving Planner and Budget, a Moving Tips Checklist to make sure nothing is left off, Packing Moving Supplies you're going to need, and information to help you decide whether you’re moving yourself or hiring moving labor services.

Let’s talk first about the move and we’ll decide whether or not you’re going to move yourself or hire it out.

Here's a quick rundown of what you need to do if you’re moving yourself:

Always go through and declutter your stuff first to avoid moving anything unnecessarily.

Once you've decluttered and decided what you're going to keep, assess what's there and decide how many boxes and packing supplies you're going to need.

Be sure to use packing paper and bubble wrap for your fragile items. Newspaper just makes a mess and the ink can mark up your fragile items, not to mention your hands when packing and unpacking.

Once you have you’re boxes, start packing as early as possible. Even if it’s only for 30 minutes to an hour a night, start packing up items that you don’t use everyday. Be sure to pick up a ‘tape gun’ too. It’s a life saver when you have to seal up a lot of boxes with tape.

Organize your packing. Pack and label the boxes with care. If you don’t pack stuff in an organized manner with like things together, you'll risk breaking and not being able to find things. Instead, use the appropriate amount of wrapping paper and or bubble wrap to protect your things and pack like items together. Then label the boxes with a short description of what’s inside.

Labeling boxes with a short description of what's inside makes moving and unpacking so much easier. This will help save you time and stress as you won’t have to waste time looking for something you need.

If you move yourself, you will probably look for a rental moving truck company too. It’s easier since you can make one trip instead of many in your car and you don’t risk damaging your car either.

Prices vary among truck size and distance traveled, but if you have planned appropriately and used a moving budget, this cost should already be factored in. Before choosing the company, study the market and make your decision according to your needs and how much you are willing to spend.

Look at the truck and make sure there’s a ramp to walk or wheel stuff up. Make sure the ramp is low to the ground to make easy to get up. Make sure the rental truck company has quilts to protect your items during transport too.

Be sure to use a moving dolly too. It’s a very helpful tool that you can stack several boxes on at a time when you move. Most rental moving truck companies have these available for rent. Believe me, your back will thank you later.

Now, if you decide that moving yourself is too much work, and it is... here's information for hire moving labor services.

Cheaper is not always better when hiring moving labor services and expensive isn't so great either sometimes. You want the best service when hiring out your move. Who wants to hire a problem? No one. Spend some time now during the hiring process to avoid problems down the line.

There are so many moving companies out there, how do you choose the best one? Ask friends, relatives, and your Realtor for a good recommendation. You want to hire one with good customer service and one that is responsive. Watch for these qualities when you're interviewing them. Never hire one you have a 'bad feeling' about. Don't ignore that 'bad feeling', it's your intuition telling you there is something wrong.

Again, hire one that offers good customer service because if you have to file a claim due to a lost or damaged item, you want it handled accurately and appropriately.

You also want to decide whether or not you'll be packing yourself, or if the moving labor services will do this. Be sure to ask them what happens if the salesperson underbids your job and there’s a need to call an extra person out, and or add boxes to your order. Don't just accept that you'll have to pay extra because the salesperson under bid the job. Some salespeople are notorious for underbidding a job just to get the sale, then the company jacks-up the price by adding an additional person or boxes.

So, make sure to decide if you want them to pack for you. Then once you're moved decide if you want them to unpack, and ask how much that's going to cost too.

Get at least three bids from movers in order to make a wise decision. Talk to the moving labor services and get a 'feel' for each company and their people.

Go with quality over price, otherwise you'll pay for it in the long run with poor responsive customer service, damage, and or loss of your items.

If you pre-plan your move, things will be so much easier and less costly to you not only in money, but time and stress too.
